An Use of Q Methodology for Construction of Own Measuring Tool

František Kalvas

The paper shows how to use the Q methodology for constructing own measuring tools. The Q methodology is complex technique of data collection and analysis for the most objective researching of subjectivities. We demonstrate the construction of our own measuring tool on example of religious collective memory in close detail. We use set of 48 sentences taken from daily press from years 2010–2013, the selection of sentences is based on a key-word search and discussions of the research team. These sentences involve important Czech historical persons, events, places and holidays; one half of sentences reflects religious interpretation, and the other half is strictly non-religious. The set is rated by 46 participants sampled intentionally. We use their ratings for an extraction of two subjectivities and we construct a Likert scale for each subjectivity. We use scales for a survey questionnaire. We administer the survey in two rounds, in the first round we ask a random sample of 1004 respondents and in the second round we ask a sample of 311 children or parents of respondents from the first round. We select respondents for the first round by random stratified sampling, strata are based on the region and size of settlement of residence. In the second round, we address almost all contacts received in the first round. Our survey results showed that the constructed scales allowed us the comparison of generations, but it was not possible to tell which subjectivity was the most dominant in the population.

Validization of Osteoarthritis Knee and Hip Quality of Life – OAKHQOL Questionnaire

Marie Holubová, Jiří Remr, Jaroslav Pilný

Survey instruments used in medical research are usually taken from foreign sources. Results gained by utilization of these instruments are related to the success of the treatment and to benefits that such intervention brings to the patient. However, the information about the methods of localization and interpretation of the instrument and the methods how its validity was proved within the new (and usually different) context is missing. The aim of this study is to describe the process of validization of the Osteoarthritis Knee and Hip Quality of Life – OAKHQOL questionnaire. This instrument is focused on evaluation of the quality of life of persons with osteoarthritis. Psychometric features of the questionnaire was tested by Cronbach’s´ alpha coefficient, by exploratory factor analysis and by parallel tests of correlations with Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire – SF-36 and with selected codes of International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). The text points-out the key steps of the validization procedure and identification of factors that might determine the findings. As a result of this study, OAKHQOL questionnaire is recommended for practical applications.

Case Study: A new view on the evaluation of regional disparities in social sphere

Zuzana Palová, Jarmila Šebestová,

The aim of this paper is to present a new view on evaluation of regional disparities in the social sphere. This view is closely linked precisely with the European Social Fund Czech Republic (ESF CR). This fund was the main financial resource for reducing social inequalities. This subject stems from the need to answer the question whether the funds from this fund is really directed into the most needed regions. The performed literature search revealed that none of the approaches of the authors who deal with social disparities, not adapted to this fund. All previous approaches are focused on the social sector in a very broad sense. This fund, however, is considered a crucial means of financing social cohesion objectives in the Czech Republic. A new approach of measuring lies in its connection with the main objective of the ESF CR with link to operational programs of this fund. In the paper there were designed individual indicators for assessing social disparities depending on the objectives of the ESF in the Czech Republic for operating period 2007–2013. Indicators have been designed in order to obtain real data for further empirical analysis.
